BECKHAM PLAYS 16 MINUTES, ESPN CHANGES ITS NAME TO US WEEKLY

We didn't catch a minute of David Beckham's American soccer debut last night -- we were far too busy playing Spades! -- and we can't say we're too disappointed. As mentioned previously here, we don't care too much for soccer; and yet, we can't seem to stop posting about Beckham. We've got Beckham fever, we guess; really, we just love all the soaws that this man attracts to his games matches. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brooke Shields, Mary-Kate Olsen, Eva Longoria, Alicia Silverstone and Katie Holmes were all in attendance for Chelsea's 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy. Huge soccer fans all of them, we're sure.

Beckham played a whole 16 minutes, as he's still recovering from an ankle injury. This didn't stop ESPN from over-hyping the match, of course. Announcer Rob Stone called Beckham "the Pied Piper of Hollywood's star scene" and they assigned Bonnie Bernstein -- one of our favorites -- to interview Hewitt and Drew Carey, for reasons still unknown to us. We will be sure to continue keeping abreast of this whole Beckham business; our guess is that he's back on the other side of the Atlantic within the next six months.
